Coming home to yourself

“It was when I stopped searching for home with others, and lifted the foundations of home within myself, I found there were no roots more intimate than those between a mind and body that have decided to be whole” .. Rupi Kaur

There is an interesting duality with the attachment we often have for either being home with our family and friends, or travelling ! Those famous words ‘wherever I lay my hat is my home’ can equally be something we get attached or used to, and in this current time where our travel options are restricted we could find ourselves with a stronger than ever longing for Wanderlust . Yet in times when we’re travelling a lot we can often just long for home , and of staying in one familiar comfortable place for a while .

When we lived very close to London it often wasn’t until family and friends used to come and stay, that we would take the time to make the most of the great city and all it had to offer and yet it was on our doorstep. But the fast pace of daily life took over and often days off were taken up with just ‘catching up’ .

This year however we may all well be able to explore a little more closer to home , and perhaps you’ve already discovered some hidden gems where you are along the way .

The same can be said for enjoying coming home to ourselves, which may be through meditation, Restorative yoga, or any kind of practice that guides us towards sitting comfortably with contentment in our own skin .

Which for some of us can require just as much training as it does to run a marathon ! I for one must admit that still after all these years of yoga practice, this aspect remains the most challenging.

To keep moving in many ways is easier, I have a real inner gypsy that loves travelling not just in body but also in mind especially for plan making ! . But it’s my Restorative and yoga Nidra practice that restores senses of balance and feeling grounded, I often still fidget around at first but when I allow every muscle to just relax and surrender, the sense of peace and tranquility that eventually comes is priceless.

So if you don’t already , I couldn’t recommend more highly incorporating some kind of practice like this into your weekly yoga schedule, to entwine together with your beautiful mind, body and soul ✨
