The Healing Powers And Magic Of Water

If you’re a Pisces fish like me or any other water sign, you may well have a natural affinity to this fluid life force ! I find water to be by far the most calming element on earth, and on a recent walk through the woods here in our beautiful alpine village, I came across the most wonderful spot on a large stone almost in the middle of the Kleine Simme river which flows down through the forest from higher altitudes with the most crystal clear melted snow.

It is icy cold, but on sunny days you just want to dip your toes right in and get immersed almost, although I have to admit I’m not yet quite up to Wim Hoff standards on that front !

So sitting like a happy frog in the middle of the river, I began listening to the sound of water weaving it’s way down through the cracks and crevices of alpine stone and granite, which gave me the most incredible sense of peace.

Meditation /finding calm stillness in mind body and soul, whatever you like to call it, can without a doubt be challenging, and as some of you may well have heard me talk about before, isn’t something that comes naturally to me, possibly you too can find ‘stilling the whirlpools of the mind’ easier said than done! Mother nature however can without a shadow of a doubt be one of our greatest teachers, guiding us to simply observe, listen and smell all the wonders that she envelops us with.

Doing this can then bring us to a place where the ego leaves and we are simply left with what is our true self…

I was listening recently to one of the masters of our time on this subject Eckhart Tolle, who describes our physical being as ripples on the ocean, given that in the grand scheme of things we are here on earth in this form for a relatively short time, whereas he says our true self, the one that can’t be seen, our soul perhaps as it’s often referred to, can be likened to the ocean as a whole in all its vast and infinite wisdom .

So I began to think more about this beautiful analogy with great comfort and ease whilst a top of my stone in the middle of the Kliene Simme, then realised that almost half an hour had just passed by.. half an hour of being totally in the moment, mesmerised by the flowing water as the sun beams danced over its shiny glimmering surface. There I had experienced this transcendence of self to simply just be, and it was rejuvenating in a way that made me feel lighter.

It had been a long time since I felt this way, with a natural propensity to constantly have or be making a plan in my head or on paper, allowing myself this kind of time can feel a little indulgent as I think about my daily to do list ! .. But shouldn’t I as a yoga teacher especially, be making a point to take time out for such practices ? .. Yes, of course I should, and I could give many excuses why I haven’t given my own mindfulness/meditation practice enough time recently. Instead however I will just say, that if you’re reading this and don’t already take time out to just be and observe nature, do try it. No matter if you live in a city, town or the countryside, just find a river bank, lake, pond or even fountain and simply observe the wonders of water every now and again.. Watch how it flows and reflects light, how wildlife plays and thrives on or in it, then perhaps before you know it time may have stood still a while, you may have recharged your batteries.. your imagination may even have been captured in such a way, that something magical begins to happen .. ♀️😉✨
